Shortleaf Pine Restoration, with Dr. John Willis

April 01, 2017 - Holly Springs, MS

Register with Mitch at mrrobinson@audubon.org or 662-252-1155

Dr. John L. Willis, Assistant Professor of Forest Ecology and Silviculture in the Department of Forestry at Mississippi State University, will present on the ecology of shortleaf pine ecosystems, historical factors associated with the decline of the ecosystem, its current distribution, and ongoing efforts to restore the ecosystem. He will also highlight some of the socioeconomic challenges to restoring the Shortleaf Pine. We hope this presentation will build an awareness and support for the shortleaf restoration movement, and to introduce the general public to Mississippi State and Strawberry Plains' shortleaf/upland hardwood restoration projects.

We will follow the program with an optional wagon-ride and hike to a potential Shortleaf Pine restoration site

$10 per person; $25 per family
